Kyabje Khensur Kangyurwa Lobsang Thubten Rinpoche ยท 1925-2014

Kyabje Khensur Kangyurwa Lobsang Thubten Rinpoche was born in 1925 in Kham, in the east of Tibet. In 1944 he entered Sera Monastery near Lhasa, one of the great monastic universities of the Gelug tradition, and trained there in the traditional curriculum of study and debate.

His name Kangyurwa is linked to the oral transmission of the Kangyur, the collected words of the Buddha in Tibetan translation, in 1972. He later served as abbot of Sera Je, one of the colleges of Sera. Sources differ on the years of his term, so this archive gives them as a range.

In 1988 Rinpoche came to Australia, arriving in Adelaide on 11 September. He taught in Adelaide for more than two decades, first at Buddha House and later at the Tibetan Buddhist Institute, which he founded in April 2005.

Rinpoche passed away on 22 January 2014. Many of his teachings in Adelaide were recorded. This archive brings together those that can be shared publicly, with transcripts where they exist.

  5. 11 September 1988 Arrives in Adelaide, South Australia, and begins teaching there.
  6. April 2005 Founds the Tibetan Buddhist Institute in Adelaide.
  7. 22 January 2014 Passes away.
